We are excited to share that we received USD 6.5 million from USAID in November 2023 to implement a five-year project titled “Conservation of the Maasai Mara Landscape”. The award is under the Global Development Alliance, a mechanism for USAID to partner with the private sector. The project focuses on four outcome areas: secured and sustained biodiversity through locally-led organisations and strategic partnerships; enhanced economic development and sustainable revenue streams for livelihood sustenance in the Mara region; and enhanced gender equality and women empowerment. The project also seeks to promote indigenous people’s rights. We will implement the project with the Community Health Partners, Mara Elephant Project, Indigenous Livelihood Enhancement Partners and Centre for Rights Education and Awareness.

Earlier, we received an award of USD300,000 from the Maliasili Conservation Fund (by Maliasili). The support seeks to strengthen MMWCA, enabling us to execute our mandate effectively. The Maliasili Conservation Fund aims to provide direct, multi-year core support to a portfolio of the best African conservation organisations.

We are also pleased to announce the Basecamp Explorer Foundation Kenya’s award of USD 150,000 to support the establishment of Mara Isinya Conservancy. The grant will facilitate landowners’ engagement in the set-up of administrative structures and legal entity registration.
